I would love to give five stars because I loved it! I loved the food--the yams delicious, their crab legs were cooked to perfection. I got a seafood platter with a little of everything and everything was delicious BUT my crab cake and deviled crab was served cold and I'm an advocate for fresh ingredients, which their seafood A+ fresh, but their corn was from a frozen bag and I'm sure some of their sides were from a can with looking at my friends meal--which is dandy but that's why they didn't get an extra star. But I really can't wait to go back, definitely doing an all you can eat crab legs--you're all invited and challenged.

Tried DeShawns for the first time yesterday with my sister for lunch. We had fried shrimp and tilapia. My sides were collards and fried corn. Her sides were Mac n cheese and fried okra. Hush puppies and complimentary grits for both of us. Sweet tea. The best experience!! Food was delicious!!! Huge portions!!! I liked that it wasn't that heavy feeling. It was light and fresh. We had enough leftovers for a late dinner and lunch today. We had the most attentive, friendly waitress. Family atmosphere. This is my new go to seafood place!!!!

This place is excellent, there are many waitresses working and they are attentive. I believe the owner happened to be in when I came and he kept checking on me as well. The pork chops and crab legs are great, I'll tell more as I eat more because I'll definitely be coming back!

Don't really see why people rant and rave about this place. We went on a Saturday night and were told the wait was an hour.....waited much longer, and pretty sure they were sitting people not in order... Which is not cool. We finally sat down, and ordered. I ordered the crab dinner, since everyone rants about the crab, and my husband got the popcorn shrimp dinner. I also got a side salad... Due to the fact I was wanting to eat my arm I was so hungry. The sides came out really fast... Mac and cheese, baked beans , collards and grits. All pretty blah.... The baked beans were very odd... Ground meat and green onion... The Mac and cheese was not cooked all the way yet it was mushy.... The cheese was not melted.... Not sure how place claim to be soul food places but don't know how to cook Mac and cheese. Later I had to ask about the crab, the waitress said she had to make sure it wasn't frozen.... Umm ok ... A few minutes I received my crab.... Two pieces with garlic butter. The shells were hard to break due to they were soft, as if they had been thawed and refrozen again.... Overall the dining experience was lacking... We will not be returning.

The reputation is the attraction, not the food. I visited based on a strong recommendation and to support a famous "neighborhood" business. Many options weren't available and tasted improperly stored, especially the fried fish. The service was excellent, but the food should keep me coming back.

I ordered the all u can eat crab legs ($28.99) and was well pleased with the size of the crab legs that came out and at the same time regretted I ordered the AUCE crab legs. The first plate came out with 3 crab clusters and I had to forced myself to finish it bcuz of the amount. So next time I'll just order the crab leg dinner ($14.99). The staff was friendly. Food came out quickly and hot. Pleasant casual atmosphere. The staff sang "Happy birthday" to birthday customers in the style of Stevie Wonder's version. Cute. Crush n Lay gravel parking lot (avoid wearing heels) My only complaints are that they don't serve alcohol. Beer and crabs go together just as well as beer and wings. And also for a customer like me who'd rather have grilled/baked fish over fried, the fish or shrimp offered is fried or you have to pay extra for it being grilled. Still prefer the seafood buffet at the Doubletree on Friday nights ($31.99) bcuz in addition to the crab legs, they offer sashimi styled tuna, smoked salmon, nothing fried from what I can recall, a full bar and a live jazz/classic soul n pop band.

I was very excited to come and try the food here. I loved how quick we got seated and the waiter, Chris, was awesome. I was disappointed at the food that were very much raved for. The Mac and cheese looked more like an elbow pasta with butter sauce and sprinkle cheese, to me. EVERYTHING we ordered was SALTY! The crab legs, collard greens, the Mac and cheese (deconstructed is the best way to describe it), fried catfish, and the calamari. The best thing I had there was my Ice cold sweet tea. Thank you!

I decided to have lunch at Deshawn's because I've heard great things about the place. I must say, I'm a fan. I had lunch with a friend here and while I waited I was offered complimentary grits. As a southern girl, I was like...heck yeah! But then I thought about all the food I wanted to try and decided against partaking in the comp. grits. Great gesture though. The restaurant is large. It is two sections. One is for dining and the other is for to-go. The staff is so nice. My waitress Dee brought water and menus out right away as I waited for my friend. She told me about the specials and waited patiently until my guest arrived. They had a shrimp and flounder special with two side dishes for $6.99. Good deal! However, if you wanted it the flounder and shrimp grilled, it was around $15. Quite the jump especially for lunch time, so we went with the fried options. The shrimp and flounder special was good. I ordered corn on the cob (steamed). I'd never seen or heard of this before my visit to Deshawn's, but apparently corn on the cob is also fried. I also had a side of mac and cheese. Everything was good and made fresh to order. The dining area has a combination of regular and high tables. Overall, a pretty nice place. Seems great for groups and nice for a Sunday. The parking lot is not paved. I think they should make that upgrade.

My visit was a Friday 5 pm. It was a full house but we got seated within 5 minutes. From there it took 10 minutes for our waitress to even acknowledge that we were there and another 10 minutes to just get our drink order. At the 30 minutes, we had finally got our drinks and placed our dinner order. I order the crab legs dinner and it was cooked perfectly. The waitress forgot to bring the shell cracker or butter. I can appreciate a server being in the weeds but my problem was there was no management support to help her. There seemed to be no system in place to keep servers from getting multiple tables sat at once. No management checking on the tables to see if everything was ok. The concrete block walls make the place very loud and the bathrooms are still substandard. The food itself warrants another visit.

I think I just found the best seafood restaurant in the CSRA. This was our first visit. I tried the seafood platter, (flounder, shrimp, and scallops), it was quite impressive. My wife tried the butterfly shrimp and crab cakes. The crab cakes were full of crab meat not fillers. The complimentary grits were really good, too.

I hate to give Deshawn's 3 stars but after this review you will see why!!!! I had heard so many great things about this restaurant in Gloverville area, I think that was where this restaurant was previous location but don't quote me on it. It's owned by Deshawn Thomas, the son-in-law of the legendary Godfather of Soul, James Brown. My mother and I tried to check them out on Tuesday. We came by and the parking lot was empty with one car in the lot. I didn't realize they weren't open on Mondays and Tuesdays but are open throughout the rest of the week. So we came back on Wednesday night. The parking lot was totally packed. This was a great sign with them being a fairly new business in North Augusta but still had a great following. They took over the old Al's building. They added a few new touches to the building like new paint, TV's, and nautical decorations but the building is still set up like the old business that was here. I'm not mad at that. It didn't take long to be seated. We were seated immediately in the back where many other patrons were enjoying their meals. We sat for a few minutes before the waitress came to take our drink orders. She was taking care of the whole left hand side in the back so we understood her situation and didn't react bitterly. I ordered Pink Lemonade and it tasted as if they made it fresh in-house. It was very delicious. The menu was pretty extensive with seafood, hoagies, crab legs, pork chops and chicken tenders. The chicken in the name is just chicken tenders, which is a bummer because I was hoping for real chicken. There were complimentary grits in the front of the restaurant that you could eat before your meal. For our entrees I settled for the Seafood combo with fried filleted Tilipia and fried scallops with my sides being collard greens and macaroni and cheese. This reminded me of my favorite seafood spots, Community Seafood, which is now out of business. I miss that place!!! Do you hear me!!! My mother ordered the Seafood combo too but with fried shrimp and fried oysters. Her sides were French fries and coleslaw. This is where the problem came in. We waited, and waited, and waited. We saw people who came in after us get their food before us. The waitress checked on us several times telling us that the food would be ready in minutes. We waited some more. Then the waitress came back and said there was a mistake in the kitchen and I food would be right along. After I checked my clock I realized that it was a hour that we had been waiting. My mother had began to get restless and agitated and wanted the food instantly. The food finally came. They had added fried okra to my meal and added more oysters and shrimp to my mother's plate. They also gave us crab leg free as well. The fish was run of the mill and wasn't fried hard as I requested it to be. The collards needed more seasoning. The macaroni and cheese was very good. I liked it a lot. The fried scallops were ok and the breading was coming off of them once you picked them up with a fork. The crab legs were acceptable but they weren't as good as Crab King's crab legs. My mother says the oysters were good and so were the shrimp. The food was average with the macaroni being the stand out. Each combo was $14.99. I don't think it was worth that much money. The portions were kind of small for that price. The other fish markets I patronize offer more flavorful food and bigger portions than Deshawn's. I'm grateful for the experience but I'm not sure if this restaurant will become one I frequent often. It may be one I come to once in a blue moon. I'm thankful that they tried to give us something for our wait, most restaurants wouldn't have done that. The taste of the seafood wasn't enough to make me a regular customer like I expected. Maybe if I give them a few months they would get their footing and more flavor in their fried seafood. If not I will continue to be a fan of my favorite seafood spots in the CSRA, which are Hunting Island Seafood and Augusta Fish Market.

I decided to try Deshawn's after hearing so many great things about it from several family members and friends who absolutely love this place. And after eating lunch there with a friend, I can see why. When I walked in the hostess greeted me with a smile on her face. I guess she could tell by the way I was looking around the room that I was trying to find my friend that I was meeting. She chuckled and said "meeting someone? She's in the back corner" ...friendly staff is always a plus! I showed up a few minutes after my friend and when I arrived she mentioned that our server, Dee, had been very attentive while she waited on me to join her. Dee came right over after seeing that I had arrived and told me about the daily specials. I decided to get the Flounder and shrimp meal that came with two sides. I was a little disappointed when I asked for it to be grilled instead of fried and was told that there would be an upcharge. I ended up going with the fried option. I must say it was a good choice! Along with the fried shrimp and flounder, I had yams, mac and cheese and collard greens. Yum! Deshawn's had several soul food like side items that I wanted to try. Which means I'll definitely be back. I also appreciated that the food came out in a timely manner and was clearly prepared fresh. The restaurant was very spacious and looked like it could accommodate larger parties which is a plus for families that may want to come here on lets say a Sunday after church. My friend and I sat in there for about an hour after completing our meals and Dee kept checking on us asking if we needed more water or to-go drinks. I really appreciated her attentiveness to us even after we had paid our bill and technically was no longer her guests. Overall my experience at Deshawn's was a good one and I will definitely be back!

The crab legs here were delicious! Once your finish with your plate the waitress was bringing us more. And they have free complimentary grits that were so good.

I just want to let everyone know that this place is fantastic the waitress was in a service mode that was incredible. The hostess was phenomenal she was what made your walking in the door a place where you want to stay I was surprised to see such a talented young lady greeting customers it's almost like she has a sixth sense, she really knew what would make you comfortable I don't have any negative thing to say. The food was fresh and hot the taste of my entire order cannot be put to words. All I can say is that my palate is demanding that I travel those 190 miles real soon to feast in this establishment again so tomorrow I have to be there again

Our first visit today, and I had high hopes bases on other reviews. Well, the first negative was the smell. The restaurant did not smell good to me. No one else seemed to notice , so I went ahead with the meal. I had the crab cakes that tasted good, but were not hot. It also came with two small bland overdone hush puppies. I also had collards, that were very salty. And I had the yams, which were half yams, half sugar syrup. They had free complimentary grits, with cheese mixed in. They were a little too greasy and runny. I would have preferred plain grits, so I could control the butter, or cheese. I never got a refill on my drink during the meal. I had to ask for one at the register. The waitress brought us our tarter sauce and cocktail sauce after she brought our food. We had some gumbo, and it was delicious, although we were told they don't always have it. I bought a piece of cake, but the waitress didn't know what flavor it was. We ate it later at home, and we think it was hummingbird cake. It was good, but had typical restaurant icing, hard and greasy. We also had banana pudding. I think it was a mix. I have never figured out why restaurant's can't make you the recipe on the vanilla wafer box. We also had a severe lack of silverware. We each got 1 fork. I hope one day our nation will overcome it's spoon shortage!

It's so nice to have a great local seafood restaurant that isn't just the same old stuff. Very good food! Deshawn is there often and is such a nice guy. They are moving to the building that used to be Al's Restaurant in North Augusta. They are completely redoing the building! So happy to get a great restaurant in NA!

I can say that I throughly enjoyed my visit to Deshawns. The fried fish and oysters were excellent. My wife and friends loved the all you can eat crab legs. They ate until they just couldn't eat anymore. I enjoyed the friendly atmosphere and the excellent service. You can Choose from a variety of fish including flounder, catfish, bream and Whitting. I wasn't all that excited about the side dishes, hopefully they will improve. I plan to return there frequently.
